South Lakeland Usability Review

South Lakeland District Council improve their website usability

Would you launch your new website without testing it on the public first?

The original South Lakeland website has tried to be all things to all people, and indeed satisfaction levels are generally felt to be good. It also suffered from a busy and cluttered home page with an over reliance on text and news, whilst not appearing to sufficiently promote or signpost online services.

SLDC therefore decided to improve the overall website design as part of the Council’s commitment to increasing Access to Services by means of self service, the website also needed to provide clear and easy signposting to the main services, catering for the needs of a high aging demographic public in the South Lakeland area.

SLDC have enlisted the services of J2 to re-design the homepage in such a way as to include images to illustrate the website in a modern and visually appealing way commensurate with SLDC’s Branding Guidelines and tourism remit.

Following the re-design of the South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) website J2 were commissioned to provide a high-level, independent assessment of usability and effectiveness report of the new website, these changes have been incorporated back into the original design to provide further improvements.

If you would like more information about J2’s usability services then we would be delighted to hear from you.
